1. Who we are
Ascendants of Gaia is an independent browser-based card game currently in early Alpha. We’re a small team building something we care about, and we want to be straight with you about how your data is handled - no legal boilerplate, no hidden tracking.
This page covers what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. If anything here is unclear, just email us at support@ascendantsofgaia.com.

2. What we collect
Your email (if you signed up for early access)
We only asked for your email to send you an Alpha key and the occasional game update. That’s it. We don’t sell it, share it, or use it for ads.
Your game profile
Your display name, hero lineup, deck, settings, stats, currencies, and quest progress all live in your browser’s localStorage - they never leave your machine during Alpha unless you’re in a PvP match. When you are in PvP, only the minimum data needed to connect you with an opponent is sent to our relay server.
Match telemetry (anonymous)
To balance the game we collect anonymous stats: which heroes were picked, what abilities were used, who won. Nothing in this data can identify you. It’s only sent in live builds - development mode is completely silent.
Basic server logs
Our hosting providers log standard request data (IP address, browser type, page visited, timestamp) for security and uptime monitoring. These logs auto-delete after 30 days.
3. Why we use it
- To keep the game running and make it better.
- To get your access key to you and send important announcements.
- To spot balance problems using anonymous match data.
- To detect cheating or abuse that would ruin the experience for everyone.
- To reply when you contact us.
We don’t do ad targeting, profiling, or anything beyond what’s listed above.
4. Who else sees your data
Almost nobody. We share data only in two situations:
- Our hosting providers - Railway (game relay) and Vercel (website) process requests as part of doing their job. Both are GDPR-compliant.
- When the law requires it - if a court order or legal authority demands it, we comply. We’d tell you whenever we legally can.
5. Cookies & local storage
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your cookie choice. The game saves your profile to localStorage so it persists between sessions. We don’t use any third-party tracking cookies - no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, nothing like that. A banner lets you accept or decline cookies on your first visit; the essential cookies are required for the site to function, so declining never locks you out of the game.
6. How long we keep things
Your game profile lives in your own browser - clearing site data deletes it permanently. Match telemetry is kept so we can balance and improve the game, but the identifier that links a record to you is cleared after 90 days, so anything older can no longer be traced back to you. Aggregated statistics - hero win rates, average match length and similar - are kept in that form, because they do not identify anyone.
Your own win/loss record is a separate case: it is part of your account, so it is kept while your account exists rather than expiring with the telemetry, and it is deleted when your account is deleted. Early-access email addresses are deleted within 30 days of the Alpha ending, or earlier if you ask us to.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Just email us at support@ascendantsofgaia.com and we’ll sort it out, normally within 30 days.
8. Kids
Ascendants of Gaia is not aimed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you think we accidentally have, let us know and we’ll delete it right away.
9. Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way we’ll update the date at the top of the page. Carrying on using the game after a change means you’re cool with it. For anything significant we’ll post a notice in our Discord too.
10. Legal basis & international transfers
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, we process personal data on the basis of consent (for optional communications) and legitimate interest (for running and improving the game and preventing abuse). Match telemetry is recorded against a pseudonymous identifier rather than your name or email address - it is still personal data, and you can ask us to delete it (see “Your rights”). Guest sessions also store a hashed form of your IP address, which we use only to prevent abuse.
Our service providers - Vercel (website) and Railway (game relay) - may process data in the United States. Both use appropriate safeguards such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Your local game profile stays in your browser and never leaves your machine outside of live PvP.
